What are the Pros of Carpet?
More than any other type of flooring, carpet gives any room a cozier, warmer feel. Along with adding insulation, for physical warmth, it creates a warmer design feeling as well.
Carpet is also easy to maintain. Carpet generally just needs to be vacuumed on a regular basis. Every once in a while, a deep clean will keep it looking like new. That’s all you need to do to maintain carpet.
What are the Cons of Carpet?
Carpet is not known as a long-lasting flooring. If stains are not removed right away, they could leave long-lasting effects. That along with general wear and tear means that carpet needs to be replaced more often than other types of flooring.
Carpet can also be limiting. If you’re carpeting a bedroom and decide to turn it into a gym later, you will most likely need to have the carpet switched out when you do so. Keep in mind what you plan to do with a room, now and in the future.
What are the Pros of LVT Flooring?
LVT flooring is easy to maintain. Compared to carpet, cleaning off stains is much easier. It’s also scratch-resistant and doesn’t require any extra care. So if you’re looking for the easiest flooring to take care of, LVT is a good choice.
LVT also comes in a large range of prices, starting at $2.50 per square foot. Whether you’re looking for something on the higher end or are working within a tighter budget, there is a type of LVT that will work for you.
LVT comes in lots of different styles, patterns, and colors. This gives you the ability to truly customize any room. While carpet brings coziness, LVT brings great variety.
What are the Cons of LVT Flooring?
While there are quite a few pros, there are also some cons you want to consider.
Compared to carpet, LVT flooring isn’t as comfortable. Whether you’re walking on it, or sitting on the ground, it’s harder than carpet. Depending on how you’re planning to use the room, if comfort is key, LVT may not be the best option.
Another variable to consider is safety. Falling on carpet softens the blow, usually decreasing any potential injury. LVT doesn’t offer that extra padding, so if you have small children who will be falling a lot, LVT may not be the right fit for their bedroom or the living room.
Why Not Both?
As you can see from the above pros and cons, your choice is really based off of your needs.
One thing to consider is that LVT may work really well for one part of your home, such as hallways, and not for another.
Carpet may be great for your bedrooms, but not ideal for your kitchen.
